Señor Sassy Pants

He. Rolled. His. Eyes. At. His. Mommy.Have you ever heard a parent say you'll be lucky to make it to your next birthday?I now know the feeling of that sentiment. I know what makes a parent think those words. It's the eye rolling. In the south I've heard it sounds a bit different: I'm gonna smack those eyes right outta your head, you roll them like that at me again.Again...I get it now.I'm sure he gets it from me, which is terrible because if I had rolled my eyes at one of my parents I highly doubt I'd be chatting with you right now. I'm somewhat expressive with my facial expressions so, he gets it from his mama. Now, when a 2.5-year-old rolls his eyes at you, it is both hilarious and terrifying. He's so dramatic about it yet you know he means to sass us with his most fashionable-sassy-pants-on. You think If we don't stop this right now, what is it going to look like when he's 13. Oh, the horror! Therefore, I have found myself saying That is unacceptable behavior. We do not roll our eyes at our Mommy more often than I'd like. I think I've said it twice this week- and we're only halfway through. I've also discovered that I use the words inappropriate or unacceptable when redirecting or reprimanding Bubba on the off chance (pfft) that we have a need to do so. He seems to get the gist so I'm hoping he understands when I use those words.Apart from the eye-rolling we've also had the dramatic sigh combined with the drawn out ohhhhkaaaaay which again, is funny but worrisome. He likes to pull that one out when we ask him to do something that wasn't on his immediate to-do list. You know, like sitting at the table for dinner, or throwing away a piece of his trash. It reminds me of the scene in A Goofy Movie where Goofy is attempting to get Max into the car for a father-son trip and Max is just.not.having.it. That's our Bubba.Oh, and he enjoys "shushing" his Daddy- also not going over well. The experts say that at this age they test their boundaries.Well, he's a ping-pong ball on caffeine against the boundaries here lately. So, if you need us, we'll be working on manners over here.See you in 10 years...maybeBe Great,M
